Newcastle Head torch race

Posted on: 15th February 2015

We got the best weather of our Winter Head Torch series. As No Ego Challenge hit the North East for the first on many events. Warmer temperatures, no wind and a bit of evening misty/fog to add to the effect. The evening was near perfect for the race itself.

All the runners were ready to go dead on 6,30pm for the No Ego Challenge Head torch race . The horn blew at 6.30 pm to see the field sprint off for very flat start, for a change.

The race had to be slightly shortened as a fallen tree was blocking part of the course.

The new super reflective arrows kept everyone on track, with twist and turns on the whole route, mostly on single track forest trails.

The winner was Steve Pullan (45), who completed the course in 32:05. Anthony Massie (26) took second place in a time of 32:45 and Paddy Armstrong (39) was third in 33:36

Lucy Wallace was the first woman, finishing 8th overall in 35:38. In a very tight finish second place was Joanne Raine in 35:38:05 on her heals and Isobel Graham was third in 36:01.

A fantastic run by 16 year old Kara Riall in 40:35 to finish 6th female and 27 overall. One to watch for the future.

The series moves on to Cuerden Valley, Preston in 2 weeks time, Feb 28th, for the last event of the Winter Head Torch series. To find out more, please visit:
