Whinlatter head torch report

Posted on: 15th December 2013

At 2.00pm it was touch and go whether we cancelled the winter series opener.

High winds were forecast but were higher than the reports, By 3.30pm things had calmed down a little and things looked good to go.

70 brave hearts turned up with a few deciding not too. Massive thanks to Siskins Cafe for letting us move the registration into the cafe.

At 5.20pm after the pre race talk, everyone moved to the start area and bang on 5,30pm with the wind and heavy rain 50+ santas plus 20 semi santas sped off down the hill and into the darkness. 35 minutes later a head torch was spotted in the trees and Josh Hebson appeared  ut of the darkness. Fantastic time in those conditions. In hot persuit were John Beetham, Richard pearson. Amanda Ingrams was 9thoverall and first lady, Kerry Rowson and Bev Faulder crossing the line together for second and third lady. All results are on the Racetiming systems site.

A massive thanks to the marshals, who braved the weather at several key points where a wrong turn would have been a  disaster. Never underestimate the success or failure of an event on the quality of the marshals. They went above and beyond last night.

Stay tuned to FB and Twitter for more news on the second of the Head torch  series in Dodd Wood, Keswick January 25th.
